Prep's Arroyo named MVP
Huntington Prep boys basketball player Carlos Arroyo collected a Most Valuable Player award Saturday in the Consol Energy All-Star Game at Mingo Central High School.
The 6-foot-1 senior guard from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, tossed in 26 points to lead West Virginia in a 116-86 victory against Kentucky.
Mackenzie Martin from Chapmanville High School followed with 24 points and Luke Eddy from George Washington High School added 17 and Marqus Cunningham of Mingo Central netted 10. Austin Brewer from the Tolsia Rebels had eight rebounds.

HUNTINGTON -- On one of the biggest national stages for high school players, Huntington Prep's Andrew Wiggins proved why he is the nation's No. 1 player for the Class of 2013.

Andrew Wiggins, 6’8, SF, 2013-Wiggins did not have the best shooting game, but made up in other facets to finish with 17 points, 18 rebounds, and 5 blocks in just three quarters of action. The nation’s top player hit a pair of threes, got to the line at will, and changed the game on both ends with his athleticism in a tune-up for this weekend’s Boyd County Roundball Classic.

A rousing halftime speech spurred an improved defensive effort that led the nation's top-ranked high school team to a 99-53 victory over the University of Charleston JV in front of 1,000 spectators in the Spring Valley High School gym.
Gill-Caesar scored seven consecutive points during the big run and finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds while also playing solid defense.

Huntington Prep hostd the Evelyn Mack Academy Wildcats today in head coach Rob Fulford's hometown of Mullens. Huntington Prep cruised to a 73-52 victory improving to 1-0 while the Wildcats dropped to 3-2 on the season.
Huntington Prep was led by Andrew Wiggins who finished with 24 (13 of which coming in the 3rd quarter). Teki Gill-Ceasar scored 19 (4-4 from the foul line), while Xavier Rathan-Mayes accounted for 12.
Dominic Woodson supplied 7 including three monsterous dunks.
Huntington Prep held Evelyn Mack's two leading scorers to a combined three points.

Huntington Prep held their annual Blue Yellow scrimmage yesterday in Huntington, West Virginia. If the scrimmage was any indication of how Huntington will treat this season, opponents might regret putting the basketball powerhouse on their schedule. This was far from a tune up game where players coasted up and down the floor. Every shot was contested and loose balls were chased down by diving defenders. The scrimmage was close throughout and needed overtime to determine a winner.
